Untargeted lipidomics reveals the toxicity of bisphenol A bis(3-chloro-2- hydroxypropyl) ether and bisphenols A and F in zebrafish liver cells

Given the opposing responses reported for bisphenol A (BPA) in terms of induction obesogenic effects and impaired lipid metabolism, increasing use F (BPF), relatively low information available regarding bis(3-chloro-2- hydroxypropyl) ether (BADGE·2HCl) aquatic organisms, this work aims to zebrafish liver cell line (ZFL) as an alternative model characterize toxicity metabolism disruptive potential selected compounds fish. All three bisphenols increased intracellular levels dihydroceramides ether-triacylglycerides (ether-TGs), suggestive inhibited growth. However, while BPA BADGE·2HCl caused increase saturated lower unsaturated TGs, BPF oxidative stress decrease TGs containing polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs). Analysis by qPCR highlighted up-regulation lipogenic genes scd elovl6 with lipids monounsaturated FA a PUFAs. This study shows that BPA, target homeostasis ZFL cells through different mechanisms, highlights higher lipotoxicity compared BPF.
